EU revised reporting standards cut mandatory datapoints by over 60%
The European Commission published a delegated act with simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standards, part of the Omnibus I package that narrows the number of companies in CSRD scope. The Commission says the draft revised ESRS reduce mandatory datapoints by over 60% and total datapoints by over 70%, changes expected to lower reporting costs per company by more than 30%.
Value-chain cap shields firms of 1,000 employees or fewer from excess data requests
The Commission's draft voluntary reporting standard, based on EFRAG's VSME, introduces a value-chain cap under which CSRD in-scope companies cannot require partners with 1,000 employees or fewer to provide information beyond what the voluntary standard sets out. The standard is designed to support sustainability reporting by companies not subject to mandatory CSRD requirements.
EEA: climate-resilient farming can stabilise incomes, but transition years are risky
An EEA briefing analysing 51 European farm-level case studies finds that climate-resilient agriculture practices can support income stability alongside food security and ecosystems. For reduced tillage, the case studies recorded diesel use cut by around 50%, production costs reduced by about 40% and labour needs by roughly 25–30%, though farms are often most economically vulnerable during the transition itself.
EFRAG updates VSME digital template and XBRL taxonomy for smaller companies
EFRAG has released updated versions of the VSME Digital Template and XBRL Taxonomy to help non-listed SMEs, including micro-enterprises, standardise the custom ESG questionnaires many currently receive. A companion converter turns the template into a machine-readable XBRL report.

After five years, Asim Hussain is stepping down as Executive Director of the Green Software Foundation, with the Steering Committee selecting a successor. During his tenure the free Green Software for Practitioners course passed 130,000 completions.
Ember: heatwaves are driving sharp spikes in European electricity demand
Ember's latest data show electricity demand rising sharply during recent heatwaves across France, Hungary, Italy and Spain, with increases of more than 20% in Hungary and Italy compared with the week before the heatwaves began. Ember notes that meeting these peaks will require sufficient clean generation alongside stronger grids and flexibility to keep electricity reliable and affordable.
