IEA: EU industrial electricity prices stayed elevated in 2025, though Nordic negative-price hours fell
The IEA's Electricity 2026 report finds that EU electricity prices for energy-intensive industries stayed high in 2025, averaging over twice US levels and nearly 50% above China, adding competitive pressure. The Nordic region was an exception on one metric, recording a year-on-year decline in the number of negatively priced hours.
EEA: 17 circular-economy actions could cut the EU's climate impact by nearly a billion tonnes CO2e
An EEA briefing estimates that a set of 17 circular economy actions could reduce the EU's climate impact by 22% — almost one billion tonnes of CO2-equivalent — cut biodiversity-loss impact by 19% and reduce fine particulate pollution by 25%. The EEA notes these measures would also strengthen resource-supply security and reduce reliance on strategic raw materials produced elsewhere.
EEA flags SMEs as central to a fair circular transition
An EEA briefing argues that recognising and engaging small and medium enterprises, alongside informal and community-based actors such as repair networks, can strengthen the circular transition. It reports that jobs linked to the circular economy in the EU-27 grew by 10% between 2014 and 2023, to around 4.4 million, while noting that some roles are low-paid or insecure.
Green software: GSF white paper maps the SCI standard to CSRD reporting
A new white paper from the Green Software Foundation's Software Standards Working Group maps the Software Carbon Intensity (SCI) standard to the CSRD's reporting requirements. It sets out how to move from software energy data to a compliant disclosure, positioning SCI as a complement to greenhouse-gas accounting by adding granularity for measuring software impacts.
Green Software Foundation appoints Navveen Balani as Executive Director
The Green Software Foundation has appointed founding member Navveen Balani as its new Executive Director, succeeding Asim Hussain, who stepped down at the end of March 2026 after nearly five years. The Foundation says it remains focused on expanding adoption of sustainable software practices and reducing the environmental footprint of software and AI.
