Ember: cheap batteries are turning daytime solar into 'anytime' power

A new Ember analysis finds that battery storage is extending solar beyond sunny hours, with solar meeting a record share of global electricity in the first half of 2026. Ember estimates that new batteries installed in 2026 could shift 34% of new daily solar generation to non-sunny hours, up from 18% in 2025, though it notes this is a theoretical ceiling as many batteries remain underutilised.

ESMA consults on technical advice as EU reporting rules are further revised

Following the Omnibus I Directive's entry into force on 18 March 2026, ESMA opened a public consultation on draft technical advice to inform a review of the Disclosures Delegated Act, running from 1 July and closing 12 August. Member States must transpose the CSRD-related parts of the directive by 19 March 2027.
